Prisons are out of space, a new law is on the way

Prisons in Turkey are packed to the brim... According to information provided by 12Punto columnist Atty. Ruşen Gültekin, there are 396 prisons in Turkey. Currently, there are 410 thousand people in prisons. The total capacity of prisons in Turkey is 295 thousand. In other words, there is actually no room in prisons for 115 thousand people!

With the situation as it is, it is naturally necessary to make room in the prisons! One of the most discussed topics of recent days is the 10th judicial package. The most striking aspect of this new package is the New Enforcement Law.

The prepared regulation introduces significant flexibility in home confinement, nighttime confinement, and weekend confinement practices. The goal here is to relieve the bloated prison population to some extent. As we learned from the pro-government newspaper Türkiye Gazetesi, the current 3-year sentence limit in the new regulation will be increased to 5 years. Thus, more convicts will have the opportunity to complete their sentences outside.

In the new model, with the 'nighttime confinement' practice, individuals convicted of minor crimes will continue their jobs during the day and return to open prisons in the evenings to serve their sentences. The concept of a minor crime is important here. For example, did students who were put in prison to be tried while detained during protests commit a minor crime or a serious crime? We will learn the details as the details of the package emerge, but one fact remains: 100 to 150 thousand detainees will be released onto the streets!

While on one hand, efforts are being made to empty the prisons, on the other hand, they are being filled.

LOOTING

For three days, there has been an electricity crisis in Europe. Power outages affecting Spain, Portugal, and France have brought life to a standstill. Flights and metro services could not be operated. Many cities were plunged into darkness.

Despite the great chaos and panic, no news of looting was reflected in the world press...

But today, there was a piece of news reflected in our newspapers. As a result of a truck trailer being torn, beer cans were scattered on the road. Citizens trampled each other to collect the beers.

A few days ago, citizens were racing against each other to collect vegetables scattered on the highway after a truck overturned.

Moreover, while the lifeless body of a citizen who lost their life in the accident was lying there... The interpretation is yours!
