Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was re-elected as Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality on March 31, was in his hometown of Trabzon.
İmamoğlu said, "The man who will surpass me hasn't been born yet, brother. And I wouldn't trip up the person who does surpass me; I swear by God, I would applaud them."
By saying things like "I would applaud them," he might have been trying to say something positive, but the way he started the sentence was problematic...
I listened to the entire speech; he said, "It is the testament of my elders to me: 'As your position grows, keep your head bowed.' We will be the soldiers of this understanding."
This part of the statement and the speech as a whole are fine.
However, isn't the sentence “The man who will surpass me hasn't been born yet” very prone to misunderstanding?
Careful, Mr. Mayor, watch the language you use!
While the summary of the speech is an attempt to convey the exact opposite, these words will be perceived as arrogance!
Chief Advisor to the President Oktay Saral called you a ‘monument of arrogance,’ or when Osman Gökçek made the statement that “Ekrem İmamoğlu means arrogance,” didn't you get angry?
Moreover, aren't you the one who rebelled in March while reacting to Erdoğan, saying, “Not giving an appointment to the mayor of 16 million people, what kind of arrogance is this?”
Our biggest problem as a nation is arrogance…
We say “We are the greatest” and then return after losing 6-0 to Austria…
We say “I know best” and the economy collapses.
We are a nation that doesn't listen to the navigation while driving, crashes into a wall, and says, “Does it know better than me?”
Don't do this, Mr. Mayor. You might be experiencing great enthusiasm from winning a second victory or from the European press headlines calling you the ‘President of the Future,’ but warn your advisors to keep you in check.
Whether you call it criticism or see it as friendly advice, I don't know, but since your opponents have already labeled you with this, such rhetoric only plays into their hands.

YOU SHOULD HAVE LEFT IT FOR THE LAST WEEK
Turkey celebrated yesterday with the Football Federation's long-overdue decision!
It was announced that foreign VAR (Video Assistant Referee) officials will be used starting from the 32nd week of the Super Lig…
There are 6 weeks left until the end of the league. Where was your mind, brother?
If you have made this decision, it means you admit that things are not working with the current referees.
Well, I would say you should have kept a tight grip on things from the beginning so you wouldn't have received so many curses from teams and fans who suffered unfair point losses, but who cares about curses?
