It is over...
Truly, in our beautiful country, humanity, decency, modesty, discipline, respect, love—in short, all the virtues that make us human—have come to an end!
There is only success, money, ambition, self-centeredness, hedonism, lack of understanding, lack of empathy, and base thinking.
Last night, we as the Beşiktaş community received very sad news. We lost Gürsoy Yalçın, the brother of the Black Eagle legend Sergen Yalçın, who had also contributed much to Beşiktaş.
Gürsoy Yalçın, who had been receiving cancer treatment for a long time, passed away at the age of only 47 due to this accursed disease.
There is nothing we can do but offer our condolences and patience to his family and all his loved ones. However, there is much we can say. And I will not refrain from saying what is on my mind.
In these days when Beşiktaş is going through a difficult period, an offer was made to Sergen Yalçın to take charge of the football team. Yalçın informed the management about his brother's illness and said, "I spoke with the president. I told the president that I would not be able to concentrate. I have a family, there are health issues. This is a job that requires concentration. Thank goodness, the president understood. Unfortunately, I said I would not be able to be of service during this period." he said.
Criticized for not accepting the position, Yalçın was forced to make the following statement: "I did not keep anyone waiting. My brother has been receiving treatment for 2 years. He is going through a difficult treatment. I wasn't here at New Year's; I was on vacation. Two days after New Year's, we suddenly rushed him to the hospital by ambulance. They put him in intensive care. His life was in danger. I came back in a hurry anyway. I don't owe anyone an explanation. I'm only saying this so people know. Family is more important than anything." he stated.
Afterward, there was no insult left unsaid to Sergen Yalçın. They attacked his coaching, his humanity, and his loyalty to Beşiktaş. So-called fans who claim to be "Beşiktaş supporters" showered him with insults. They left such comments under every news story about Sergen that we were ashamed to read them. Things like 'He didn't accept Beşiktaş because he was waiting for an offer from Fenerbahçe,' 'He didn't like the squad,' 'If his brother is sick, why did he go on vacation?', 'The reason for going to Cyprus is obvious'...
Now, Coach Sergen has lost his brother. Are you happy now, social media heroes, fake fans, fake people...
Everyone has sick relatives in their family. In a treatment process lasting two years, how many of you can stay by your patient's side 24 hours a day?
It has been a month since the offer was made to Sergen Yalçın. At that time, his brother had been taken to intensive care. If he had accepted the job just to please you, he would not have been by his brother's side during his final month. But after 3 or 5 losses, you would have booed him again and shouted 'Sergen out'.
When did we become so heartless? When did we drift so far from humanity? When did it become the character of our nation to marginalize, label, and push away anyone who doesn't think like us, doesn't do what we want, or makes a decision that doesn't suit our interests? What have you done to this nation? Were we like this?
How did we forget that the issue is about 'being human'?
Dear Sergen Yalçın, I am ashamed not only on behalf of the Beşiktaş community but on behalf of humanity, and I sincerely apologize to you on behalf of these tactless people.
They won't feel ashamed, but I know you will never be resentful toward Beşiktaş. My condolences...
