If morality collapses in a society, that society is finished. Moral decay is not, as some claim, about men and women walking together, clinking glasses in a tavern, or wearing a miniskirt.
Morality is collapsing in every segment of society, rotting day by day like a piece of putrid meat.
In the city, in the town, in the village…
In the public sector, in the private sector, in the state…
In newspapers, on television, in all media…
In schools, in mosques, in coffeehouses…
In the family…
In short, in every area of society. The rot is at such a level that it is beyond comprehension.
It has been 14 days since we entered September; just look at what we have been talking about in these two weeks. The murder of Narin. Allegations that the family, and even the entire village, are involved. An unsolved murder. Allegations of illicit affairs, hiding the body of a child who fell victim to a murder for money…
A 2-year-old baby being raped in Tekirdağ, the mother hiding the incident…
Three security guards repeatedly raping a 14-year-old girl with a 25 percent disability in Adana…
These are the things our society is talking about!
Are they just talking? They are also profiting from it. Large organizations, artists, and social media influencers, seeing that this business generates ratings, have swarmed the news like piranhas. Everyone has misinformation, and their claims go no further than pontificating.
As I said, the rot has permeated every level of society… Is it just this issue? How many people are left who do not chase illegal work, do not commit fraud, or do not scam one another?
Luxury residential complexes have turned into hubs for escorts. Everyone is looking for a way to get ahead. Some on social media, some openly in the hands of the mafia, are obsessed with making easy money. And this has reached such a state that no one finds it strange anymore; they are brazen enough to openly say, "We're chasing illegal stuff, brother." But how could it be otherwise when an influencer with so many lawsuits against them gains 250 thousand followers in my country upon being released!
Do you watch the programs broadcast in the morning slots? It is unclear who is doing what to whom. Kidnappings, murders, infidelities are rampant…
On the street, no one has respect for anyone else. On the bus, let alone giving up a seat to the elderly or those with children, people are beating up disabled individuals! Women who return home on public transport without being harassed consider it a lucky day.
Don't you miss the generation in the old Turkey that would lower the volume of music when the call to prayer was heard, hide their raki glass under the table, the aunts who would bury their feet in the sand with their headscarves on while waiting for their children to swim, the people of my country who showed respect to the elderly, to children, and to different thoughts and political views?
So, does anyone know how morality fell so low in the new Turkey?
