I love these kinds of studies…
They are like a mirror to society. We have the results of another survey from a research company; it clearly reveals what state we are in. ASAL Research asked citizens about Turkey's most trusted institution.
The answers? To say they are interesting would be an understatement…
The most striking result is this: Exactly 24.9 percent of the participants said, “I do not trust any institution.”
Look, I repeat; no institution at all!
This rate surpasses all other institutions on the list, laying bare the erosion of institutional trust in Turkey.
In other words, the nation trusts no one…
How could they trust? Let me give you a concrete example:
Banu Aktekin, the wife of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli University Rector Prof. Dr. Semih Aktekin, entered the Department of Ceramics and Glass at the Faculty of Fine Arts in the 2021-2022 academic year through a special talent exam following additional placement.
Pay attention! Only 1 person was accepted through the additional quota… And that was the Rector's wife, Banu Aktekin!
Is it possible? Of course it is possible, perhaps she is very talented. I cannot speak to that part…
But the story does not end there!
Rector Aktekin had the Department of Ceramics and Glass moved from the Hacıbektaş district to the Avanos district, 10 km away, by a senate decision so that his wife could travel to the university more easily.
And then?
After his wife graduated, the same department was moved back to Hacıbektaş, 55 km away from the center of Nevşehir, again by a senate decision.
Look, this is just one example… But it is not an ordinary one.
If the person at the head of an educational institution can make such comfortable moves for their own benefit, can there be any trust left in other institutions?
There cannot!
What did our ancestors say?
“Those who hold the honey lick their fingers…”
Well, if you have such a proverb, investing in trust is difficult, and transparency becomes a dream!
In other words, while a certain group feeds on honey and cream, the citizens are struggling with hunger. According to Türk-İş data for June, the hunger threshold has risen to 26 thousand 115 TL, and the poverty threshold to 85 thousand 66 TL. But who cares? The happy minority continues to lick the honey. And then people wonder why there is no trust left in institutions; if there were any left, we would be surprised.
