In 2024, the lowest salary for a general practitioner is 46 thousand 900 liras... This is roughly equivalent to 2.7 times the minimum wage.

According to research results from the United Public-Labor Confederation (Birleşik Kamu-İş), in March, the hunger threshold for a family of four rose to 20 thousand 98 liras, and the poverty threshold rose to 57 thousand 280 liras.

You will start life as a poor doctor.

Of course, that's not the only issue. You also have to be prepared to be assaulted by patients' relatives at any moment.

You might ask, "So, what should we do if we don't study?"...

According to data prepared by the '24 Saatte İş' platform, the most sought-after professions in Turkey's labor market have been announced. At the top of the list is the doner kebab master. The second place has been claimed by prosthetic nail specialists...

The lowest salary for a doner master starts at the 40 thousand lira level, and for a prosthetic nail specialist, it starts at 39 thousand liras.

After these two professions, electricians at 37 thousand liras, grill masters at 34 thousand liras, and drivers at around 32 thousand liras stand out as the most sought-after workers.

If you work as an apprentice for a few years, you have a high chance of succeeding in these professions anyway. Isn't that better than studying for 4 years to become a fisheries engineer and working as a cashier at a three-letter supermarket for a salary of 17 thousand liras?

What did Professor Doctor Bülent Arı, former Vice Rector of Sabahattin Zaim University and later appointed as a member of the YÖK Supervisory Board, who currently serves as a faculty member at Istanbul University's Faculty of Political Sciences, say?

"I get anxious as the literacy rate increases among us. I trust the common sense of the ignorant and uneducated segment more in this country," he had said.

Now, young people might not know this, but the founder of the Motherland Party (Anavatan Partisi), who served as prime minister between 1983-1989 and was the 8th President of the Republic of Turkey, the late Turgut Özal, had a famous saying: "We are leaping into a new age."
