Who is the winner of the election?

There is, of course, much to be said about the March 31 Local Elections…

On the morning of April 1, the election results felt like an 'April Fools' Joke' for many segments of society… 

Because the opposition's success in the local elections was an unexpected result even among opposition voters, social media was flooded with comments like “I can't believe it, is this a joke?” 

Naturally, since the ruling party and its voters did not expect such a result, they also woke up to a morning that felt like a joke…

So, what happened now? Who is the winner of the election?

The ruling side says, “Those expecting an early election can keep dreaming.” 

The opposition says, “We are coming with a roar.”… 

Everyone is, of course, making their own political interpretations.

I want to look from a different window. Regardless of party affiliation, I believe the winners of this election are women.

Aydın, Diyarbakır, Eskişehir, Gaziantep, and Tekirdağ, among Turkey's metropolitan cities, will be governed by female mayors for 5 years.

All but one of the female candidates who won metropolitan municipalities were elected mayor by receiving over fifty percent of the vote. 

In six other cities, female candidates were also chosen by the public to serve. 

Furthermore, in district mayoralties, three women in Istanbul, one in Ankara, eight in Izmir, and one in Adana will roll up their sleeves to serve the public as mayors. 

It is clear that in Turkish politics, female candidates and female administrators are not given a chance. 

Yet, the year 1930 was when the path was cleared for Turkish women to hold seats in local governments…

This right was granted earlier than in many countries around the world. Despite this, we are celebrating today because eleven female mayors were elected!

For example, in the last general elections in England, female candidates won 220 of the 650 seats in parliament. We are having a celebration because eleven female mayors were elected…

We always say, “Paradise lies at the feet of mothers,” we say women are so important and valuable to us, but when it comes to giving responsibility to women, we ignore them. 

Our new mayors should give the best message to a society that falsely claims to value women.

A great duty falls upon the female politicians who will serve in cities, especially in this election. Come on, make the cities where the public trusted you and gave you the duty so beautiful that the male-dominated political world, which ignores you, will be forced to see that they can win with female candidates in future elections. 

Even if they don't want to, they will be forced to surrender to women. 

Come on, roll up your sleeves immediately…
