Who wants World War III?

The crisis that began when US President Biden gave the green light for Ukraine to strike Russian territory with long-range missiles provided by Washington is escalating.

Ukraine has used NATO weapons and missiles received from the UK. Although it has not been officially announced that these missiles were used in Ukraine's latest attack, Russia's retaliation with a nuclear ballistic missile shows that World War III is at the doorstep.

While announcing Russia's new nuclear doctrine, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev explained why such a decision was made: "NATO missiles launched against Russia can be considered an attack on our country. Russia may respond to such an attack against Ukraine and key NATO facilities with Weapons of Mass Destruction. This means World War III."

So, who wants World War III? In a statement, the Kremlin announced that the hypersonic missile attack on Ukraine was a warning to the West. In other words, they implied that they did not carry out such an attack out of the blue.

Emphasizing that the US and the UK provided the missiles for Russia to be attacked, Moscow stated that it carried out this move to warn the West that it would respond to these attacks. In other words, Russia is warning!

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia was not actually obliged to warn the US about this counter-attack, but that it still informed the US 30 minutes before the launch. Peskov stated that Putin is open to dialogue. In other words, Russia and Putin are openly expressing their concern that the Ukraine war could turn into a global war and are calling for dialogue.

After China confirmed that Russia had fired an experimental hypersonic ballistic missile in the Ukraine war, it reiterated its calls for all parties in the Ukraine war to remain "calm" and "restrained" on Friday. German Chancellor Olaf Scholz described Russia's use of a hypersonic missile to strike Ukraine as a "terrible escalation" in the war.

Re-elected US President Donald Trump is calling for restraint, but he still has two months to wait before taking office. But what are we doing while there are forces fueling this war to such an extent and the whole world is on edge?

What is Turkey's role or risk in a global war? We are more interested in Lieutenants drawing swords saying "We are the soldiers of Mustafa Kemal," journalists commenting on politicians, fake cheese found in pastries, and celebrities playing illegal betting.

However, as both a NATO ally and Russia's neighbor on the Black Sea, we are, as always, in the position of the riskiest country on the map.

Russia's threat is clear: "We will strike NATO's military targets!"

Where are the closest bases? One was established in Poland. A newer base... And Incirlik base, one of NATO's 6 bases with nuclear capacity, is in Turkey!

Turkey does not impose the embargoes applied by EU countries on Russia due to the Ukraine war. It even took on another role regarding the Grain Corridor. We have the S-400 missile defense system that we bought from Russia after the F-15 crisis we experienced with the US. So, is Russia a friend or a foe? What role will we play in all this chaos?

The main question here is: How is Turkey managing the process? What kind of activities are the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, policy experts, ambassadors, and attachés conducting in diplomatic terms?

It is a known fact that these diplomats, along with İnönü, played a role in staying out of this global fight during World War II. Although we have distanced these cadres by calling them "monşer" (elitists), we know the importance of the people in these positions in foreign policy.

What kind of task will diplomats in this field undertake now? What are their qualifications? Especially the diplomats in the US, UK, Germany, and Russia have a great duty. This should be the most important agenda item that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Hakan Fidan should address first.

We will see whether we will be dragged into it as in World War I in a possible global war, or whether we will manage to stay out of it as in World War II.

Of course, our hope is that the parties will be calm and not drag the world into such chaos. However, it is useful to be prepared.
