 'Laçin Akyol'

Laçin Akyol was a young girl who grew up with love; she was kind-hearted, naive, had a highly developed sense of responsibility, and was full of love.

She was touted as one of the brilliant violin virtuosos of the future.

Her parents had noticed her exceptional talent when she was very young.  Mahmut and Övül Akyol, who are State Opera and Ballet artists, structured their lives around their daughter's future career plans.

When Laçin was 6 years old, she began part-time studies at the Mersin State Conservatory. She skipped grades very quickly. With her small hands, she played great works on her violin.

She drew attention when she was just 8 years old.

At age 9, she placed 3rd in the International Grumiaux Competition for Young Violinists, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. President Erdoğan had sent a violin to Laçin.

At age 12, she surpassed her competitors in the Eskişehir Metropolitan Municipality Symphony Orchestra audition and earned the right to be a soloist. Her age was small, but her talent was great. She had big dreams. She won a merit scholarship. A new page had turned in her music career. She was now a student at the International Music Academy in Switzerland! Her teacher, Philip Draganov, told her family that Laçin would be one of the world's brightest violin virtuosos in the future.

She was passionate about her violin. She would practice for hours.

During the semester break, Laçin Akyol broke her leg while on a ski vacation she took with her friends to get some rest. She came to her parents in Mezitli, Mersin, to recover.

On the day of the accident, she and her friend were going to have tea by the seaside. Laçin was walking with crutches. When they reached the crosswalk, her friend crossed first. A vehicle entering the crosswalk at 100 km/h did not stop and hit Laçin. Laçin, who hit her head on the median, was taken to intensive care.

Laçin Akyol, the only child to whom they dedicated their lives and whom they cherished, became a victim of traffic terror at a crosswalk. It is devastating. One wants to scream at the top of their lungs…

It is so painful..

Unfortunately, Laçin could not be saved.

It was the most difficult, most painful day for her parents. They made the decision to donate the organs of their daughter, who was brain dead.

An angel passed through this world. With her organs, Laçin gave life to five of our people in Malatya, Kayseri, and Mersin.

The International Music Academy in Switzerland (SIMA), where she studied on a merit scholarship, has decided to establish a fund in memory of Laçin Akyol from now on. Thanks to this fund, Turkish youth coming from Turkey will study on scholarships.

Her teacher, Philip Draganov, said, "Laçin was a special child. All the teachers gathered and thought about what we could do in her memory, and we decided to create this fund."

It is so heavy, so very heavy. We could not protect you from traffic terror, my child. It is devastating.
