The entire opposition must support Can Atalay's legislative proposal; 'February 6 Earthquake Awareness and Commemoration Day' must be declared!

Three days before the scandalous decision, in an interview I conducted with TİP Chairman Erkan Baş, I asked, "Did you discuss the claim that Can Atalay's parliamentary membership would be revoked and the postponed Constitution rally with Özgür Özel?"

Erkan Baş replied, "It was not on the agenda during our meeting that day," and added, "I think the Speaker of the Parliament cannot go that far anymore!"

CHP leader Özgür Özel must not have thought the government would go this far either, as he did not even bring the issue to the agenda.

Seven days after the meeting between Özgür Özel and Erkan Baş on January 24, Can Atalay's parliamentary membership was revoked in the TBMM!

If only time could be turned back...

If only the two leaders had foreseen the government's move, brought the claim of revoking Can Atalay's membership to the agenda, and announced that the postponed Constitution rally would be held at Tandoğan Square on Sunday, January 28.

Seeing the power of the people at Tandoğan Square, perhaps Bekir Bozdağ would not have found the courage to read the Court of Cassation's decision.

The government continues to execute its own agenda like clockwork. The opposition is always trailing behind.

A few days before the first anniversary of the earthquake, the parliamentary membership of Can Atalay, who was elected by the will of the people of Hatay, was revoked. Yet, at that very hour, Can Atalay was preparing a legislative proposal calling on the TBMM to fulfill its duty and declare February 6 as the "Earthquake Awareness and Commemoration Day."

Can Atalay, the deputy of Hatay, which lost thousands of its people in the earthquake, is still a member of parliament in the eyes of the citizens of the Republic of Turkey and the Constitution of the Republic of Turkey.

Revoking the membership of Can Atalay, whom the Constitutional Court has ruled is "innocent," is a violation of the Constitution.

The government is executing its agenda like clockwork.

While the opposition is focused on the elections, the Constitution is being eroded.

The postponed Constitution rally must be held as soon as possible. All non-governmental organizations, led by the Union of Turkish Bar Associations, must support this rally regardless of political views. And the copy of the Constitution that was thrown at the deputy in Parliament should be distributed to the public!

The opposition must now start setting the agenda a little bit.

For example, CHP, TİP, Saadet Party, İYİ Party, DEVA, DEM, Future Party, and all opposition parties represented in Parliament can support the legislative proposal prepared by Can Atalay for February 6. They can all call on the TBMM to fulfill its duty and responsibility together.

Murat Kurum's admission that 'we lost 130 thousand people in the earthquake' justifies Can Atalay's legislative proposal.

The acceptance of the legislative proposal prepared by Can Atalay could, to some extent, provide some comfort to the earthquake victims and the people who lost their loved ones.

In memory of our people who lost their lives in the earthquake, FEBRUARY 6 EARTHQUAKE AWARENESS AND COMMEMORATION DAY must be declared.

As we conclude our article, let our final words be from Yunus Emre;

"You stand upright. The crooked will find their punishment."
