The phrase 'Nothing will change anyway' is the most dangerous fire of all!

The same cycle every morning. The inner restlessness that wakes us before the alarm goes off, the first thought that enters our mind the moment we open our eyes: 'What happened today?'

Instead of starting the day, we are now waking up to meet disaster!

Everything is burning. Both literally and metaphorically. Our forests are ablaze. İzmir is burning, Antakya is burning, Antalya is burning! The places we comforted ourselves about just a few years ago by saying "they will turn green again" are now back in flames. The olive groves of İzmir Gaziemir, Germiyan, and the Buca forests, where we filmed our documentary titled SULAR BULANMADAN (Before the Waters Get Murky) last year, have turned to ash. The living creatures in the forest, the animals, have burned; the memory of the soil has turned to ash. But it seems to pass from the agenda as if this were something to get used to.

A person breathes not only through their nature but also through their justice. Justice is the guarantee of freedom! But now, justice is burning too. The law is no longer a tool of judgment, but a mechanism of intimidation. The law is being crushed under the weight of a scale tilted in favor of the powerful.

And then there is the economy, which is also burning fiercely. Prices on the shelves change not monthly, but daily. Getting by on minimum wage is not a miracle; it is literally a fight for survival!

Everyone has a fire in their pocket, but we no longer have the strength to carry water to the fire. It is as if there is not a gap, but an active volcano between rents and salaries. It erupts every month.

And as a society, we are burning out. Our morale has burned, our psychology has been scorched. Everything we said "that wouldn't happen" has happened; in fact, even more has happened. Waking up to a new disaster every day has left no room for happiness. Sometimes we don't know what to be sad about. Should we weep for nature, be angry at justice, or mourn our empty pockets?

Helplessness, hopelessness, and resignation are gnawing at us from within. The phrase "Nothing will change anyway" is the most dangerous fire of all. Because as this phrase spreads, our resistance turns to ash.

But this order is not destiny. And this fire is not an inevitability.

Let us not forget: In this country, forests may burn, but the seeds will sprout again. As long as we do not abandon the soil. As long as we do not leave each other alone.

Because sometimes, what saves a forest is not the wind; it is the courage of an ant.

To speak, to write, to resist… These are not just actions; they are carrying water. That is why; when even one person says "enough is enough," the direction of the smoke changes.
