The voice of justice has been muffled, but the people's melody will not be silenced!

Turkey is witnessing the greatest social struggle in its history. The 2.2 million people who filled Maltepe Square yesterday showed the power of resistance to the entire world.

There was no free transportation, no free meatballs and bread.

On the contrary, despite the increasing dose of violence against those participating in the protest, and despite the declaration of a 9-day holiday, 80-year-old uncles and aunts, who perhaps had never attended a rally in their lives, flocked to Maltepe with their grandchildren of their own free will. The blue sky was draped in red and white flags. Such a crowd has never been seen in the history of Turkey.

This unprecedented form of protest, which spread in waves following the march started by Istanbul University students on March 19 and is adorned with humor, is becoming an inspiration to the world.

This game-changing resistance, led by young people, is drawing attention in every aspect. The students, who linked arms and broke through the barricade with the slogan "Open the police barricade," also demolished the wall of fear in people's minds.

All over Turkey, despite the rain of arrests, detentions, and disproportionate violence, young people who are not afraid of being beaten with batons have disrupted the narrative by giving flowers to the police who brandished sticks at them. The Pikachu that emerged from the protests in Antalya went viral in the world media. Pikachu became a source of inspiration for protesters in Georgia, thousands of kilometers away.

The 2.2 million people who attended the historic rally in Maltepe filled the square with colorful banners where humor reached its peak. "This lightbulb has burned too long, let's switch to eco-mode," "We are not resisting under any party.

We are the people!". "I dressed basic because my star piece is my secularism," "We are on the edge of all possibilities," were some of the banners that drew attention. While the voices of the young people saying "We came for our primary duty" echoed through Maltepe Square, some media outlets were broadcasting "how to make kadayıf recipes" on their screens.

An elderly woman in her 80s, who said, "I am here for my grandchildren, I am here to save their stolen future," was holding a sign that read:

"The voice of justice has been muffled, but the melody of the people will not be silenced."

Unlike the Republic rallies or the Gezi protests, the driving force behind this resistance is young people between the ages of 18 and 25.

For this reason, Maltepe Square did not witness a political space, but an activist one. The youth did not come together under any specific ideology, but solely on the common ground of the "Republic."

Their common ideology: The Republic.

Their idol: Atatürk!

And the fundamental value they defend is: "The Ballot Box!"

They are not vandals; they are peaceful. They possess an intelligence that turns conventional wisdom upside down.

And no force can suppress the energy of these young people.
