To escape social decay...

For the past month, we have been witnessing some of the most horrific murder cases in Turkey's history. Starting with the brutal murder of Narin within her own immediate family, to the 19-year-old monster named Semih Çelik, who decapitated two young women his own age and called one of their mothers to the scene to throw her daughter's head in front of her, and finally, the Newborn Gang that caused the deaths of 12 babies!

We see from phone messages that this gang, composed of healthcare workers whose profession is to "save lives," knew no bounds in their cruelty by killing newborn babies. One says to a nurse, "Kill the baby."

Thanks to our colleague Emrullah Erdinç, who broke this story, the licenses of 9 hospitals mentioned in the indictment have been revoked following the operation against the Newborn Gang.

Investigations must also be launched into the chain hospitals across Turkey that have been affiliated with these facilities.

Turkish Medical Association President Prof. Dr. Alpay Azap expressed the reason for the social decay in healthcare very clearly with these sentences:

“The AKP government's Health Transformation Program inserted money between the patient and the physician, destroying the relationship of trust. No matter where you grab it, the system falls apart. The market logic is money-oriented. Unfortunately, human values remain in the background.”

In Turkey, two-thirds of neonatal intensive care beds are in private hospitals. To avoid this responsibility and especially the burden of staff, private hospitals entrust these departments to external companies. The Newborn Gang exploited exactly such a need. Therefore, the following question comes to mind:

Could this gang formation we see in the neonatal unit have also taken root in adult and geriatric intensive care units?

This brutality has severely damaged the public's trust in the healthcare system.

The Ministry of Health must launch an emergency mobilization and examine all deaths in neonatal and adult intensive care units that have been reported to CİMER and the prosecutor's office. All hospitals reported for intensive care deaths must be subjected to a thorough investigation.

What we know of right now is the murder of 12 babies! Who knows how many more babies' lives have been taken that we do not know about. I fear that when the connections of this blood-curdling gang are investigated, there will be more to come…

As a public, we have been left to face a very heavy burden. It is painful to watch the daily brutal murders of women, the murders of children, and the massacres of stray animals with the conscientious burden of being unable to do anything.

We are struggling in the midst of social decay, caught in a spiral of violence.

There is actually much we can do to create hope. First, not to forget and not to let others forget. And to demand urgent change to escape the social decay that is dragging the country to the bottom of the mud.

Change comes with an early election.
