What happened in İliç was not an accident, it was a murder!

Why do I call it 'murder'… Allow me to explain;

Erzincan's İliç district, where the cyanide leak in 2022 at the mine that caused the disaster Environmental Impact Assessment report showed the inadequacy of the positive approval. The mine was being operated beyond its capacity. The EIA report meaning the safety measures were insufficient. Inadequate precautions led to a crack in the cyanide heap leach pad, and from that crack, the Euphrates Riverwas caused to be flooded with kilograms of poison!

And the mine was shut down!

Under normal circumstances, an EIA process should have been initiated for the mine, where new safety protocols and commitments would be established. EIA process should have been initiated. However, the company did not want to wait a year for this process. The information reaching me suggests that bureaucrats were pressured to bypass the new  Despite the requirement for an Environmental Impact Assessment report, the company, leveraging the influence of the Çalık Group, opened the mine without delay and without modifying the old EIA!

The disaster that caused the loss of 9 workers in İliç is a murder.

The Constitutional Court ruled that the cases filed by environmentalists, which they'lost', were not conducted in accordance with procedure. In other words, the Constitutional Court found the environmentalists right in their complaints regarding the mine. How did these courts reach these decisions?

The fingerprints in the disaster in İliç, Erzincan, belong to the Ministry of Environment and Urbanization, which allowed the mine to reopen without a new Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA); the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, which failed to revoke the mining permit despite the dubious EIA; the courts that did not cancel the EIA report; and, above all, the Çalık-Anagold company, which engaged in reckless production...
