This is how the stones of hell were laid

It was the early years of the AKP government.

Across the country, especially in Istanbul, the state's assets, factories, and banks were opened up to international 'investments' in line with Erdoğan's 'sales and marketing' directive.

A Dubai Sheikh was going to erect spiral towers in the middle of Istanbul. As if the ancient history of Istanbul, the city of empires, did not exist, these structures were carried to the headlines of the sycophantic press with claims that they would be 'the symbol of the Bosphorus in the world.'

The country's brightest intellectuals, led by the Chamber of Architects and the Chamber of City Planners of the time, took the looting order to the judiciary, and because the high judiciary was not yet affected by political staffing at that time, decisions were made in the interest of the country.

From Galataport, which was secretly marketed to Ofer, to the plunder of mines, coasts, and forests...

The laws that were intended to be passed in the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (TBMM) for sales and marketing were also being blocked by the vetoes of the President of the time, Ahmet Necdet Sezer.

Every time a 'mega project' or a major marketing scheme was canceled, Erdoğan complained about the judiciary to the public. According to him, the high judiciary was the biggest obstacle in front of investments!

As the AKP government grew stronger, it removed the 'obstacles in front of investments' one by one!

It destroyed the inspection and audit units. Finance inspectors and account experts, who were selected and trained as the country's most elite bureaucrats, were brought into line with tax auditors.

Court of Accounts (Sayıştay) auditors were put under pressure. Inspectors were forced to hide the corruption they detected in their reports... After a while, they were made unable to even write those!

Thus, with the comfort of 'getting rid of' public oversight, the government became lawless and disregarded the law in sales, marketing, and tender processes. After all, there was no one left to ask, 'How did you do this?'

As a journalist who has researched and uncovered most of these and written books about them, I could provide enough examples to fill an encyclopedia—especially regarding the city hospitals of the recent period.

The AKP spread fear among society and all segments fighting for the public interest through regular 'operations.'

Those who loudly objected to the government's one-man regime and corruption economy were at one time screwed into cases like Ergenekon and Balyoz. Later, during the process of fighting against FETÖ, those who disturbed the government were accused of 'being FETÖ members.' The character assassinations by the sycophantic media diluted the fight against FETÖ and harmed this struggle.

The AKP was building a system where it would not be held accountable for any of its actions or a single decision it made.

The TBMM was also the biggest obstacle in front of this 'comfort'! Parliamentary questions, the Supreme Council (Yüce Divan), and many illegalities brought to the Constitutional Court were the stones in front of this arbitrary rule...

The AKP, which changed the regime with a referendum, established the Palace government and sidelined the TBMM.

With the new regime, constitutional institutions were turned upside down. Politics permeated all institutions of the state, from school principals to the high judiciary.

Now, those who were AKP members had credit, tenders, jobs, appointments, and even justice of their own!

The crisis recently initiated through the Constitutional Court is, of course, no coincidence...

The party-state is being rebuilt in such a way that no dissenting voice will be heard and not the slightest audit will be conducted.

A system of 'recklessness and impunity' where there is no parliamentary oversight, no Court of Accounts, no inspectors, and no judicial review, where the press is completely controlled, and the handful of independent media outlets are suffocated.

Even if the Constitutional Court cannot be abolished, its powers will be clipped.

The Palace government is taking steps that will set the Republic of Turkey, which is a secular, democratic, and social state of law despite all its problems, back by 200 years.

And this mentality, without looking at the destruction, lawlessness, and desertification it has caused, says, 'Let's make a new constitution!'
