Austria to host a selection of Turkish contemporary art

Kolekta, which aims to make contemporary art production in Turkey accessible and reach wide audiences while also maintaining a digital archive, is launching a new exhibition series to bring contemporary art from Turkey to international audiences.

The first of the exhibition series will take place between December 2, 2023, and January 7, 2024, at the Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis in Bregenz, Austria.

Curated by Derya Yücel, the group exhibition titled "Everything will be just like it is now, only a little different" brings together significant names in contemporary art from Turkey.

The exhibition will feature works produced in various disciplines by Ahu Akgün, Alican Leblebici, Antonio Cosentino, Ayça Telgeren, Azade Köker, Berat Işık, Buğra Erol, Burçak Bingöl, Çağrı Saray, Canan Dağdelen, Cengiz Tekin, Eda Çekil, Erinç Seymen, Ferhat Özgür, Fırat Engin, Hüsamettin Koçan, Işıl Eğrikavuk, Komet, Mehtap Baydu, Metin Çelik, Murat Morova, Nadide Akdeniz, Nancy Atakan, Necla Rüzgar, Neriman Polat, Nezaket Ekici, Ozan Türkkan, Şahin Kaygun, Selim Birsel, Sena Başöz, Vahap Avşar, Volkan Aslan, and Yaşam Şaşmazer.

The exhibition, which will be held with the contributions of the Republic of Türkiye Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the support of the State of Vorarlberg, and hosted by the Künstlerhaus Palais Thurn und Taxis in Bregenz, aims to strengthen communication and cooperation between Austria and Turkey through art, while also shedding light on Turkish contemporary art.

'ART OPENS THE DOOR TO OTHER POSSIBILITIES'

The exhibition's curator, Derya Yücel, explained the framework of the exhibition as follows:

"Being aware of the complex and structured nature of our identities through art opens the door to other possibilities for us. The nomadic experience of the artist residing at the crossroads of the world and an artistic language that carries our understanding of existence/difference is no longer just an expression of a history belonging to a single place.

Thought is a traveler. Just like the artist, it shifts mentally, spiritually, and physically, and requires translation. Art, which mediates the 're-telling,' re-articulation, and re-placement of things defined as historical and cultural knowledge, fosters a way of thinking that is not monotonous, that repeatedly addresses and evaluates social events, and that is open to the possibility of correction.

The artist reaps, threshes, constructs, and rewrites history like crops. The language of art finds new life as it is interpreted and translated in this process."
