Bellini's portrait of Fatih Sultan Mehmet takes its place at the Haliç Shipyard

The Istanbul Art Museum, which opened its doors at the Haliç Shipyard and brought a new breath of life to the city's cultural scene, is hosting the “Ah Güzel İstanbul” (Oh Beautiful Istanbul) exhibition, which brings together different collections and institutions.

Prepared as a result of a collective effort, the exhibition brings together leading collections from the art world, including the Bilge Collection, Dr. Şükrü Bozluolcay Collection, IMM Collection, IMM President Ekrem İmamoğlu Collection, İyem Collection, Lale-Cengiz Akıncı Collection, Mustafa Taviloğlu Collection, Meir Dalva Collection, Merey Collection, and Ulaş Değirmenci Collection.

FATIH'S PORTRAIT, AT THE SHIPYARD THAT IS FATIH'S LEGACY

Within the scope of the “Ah Güzel İstanbul” exhibition, which traces the artistic heritage of Istanbul by navigating through different periods, layers, and forms of expression, the IMM's rich collection, which essentially belongs to the people of Istanbul, is also meeting with art lovers.

One of the special encounters in the exhibition is the unique piece from the IMM collection: the portrait of the Conqueror of Istanbul being made visible again in his own city, at the shipyard that is Fatih's legacy, and reuniting with the people of Istanbul...

The importance and distinctiveness of the portrait of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, painted in the workshop of Gentile Bellini, lies in the fact that it is one of only three oil paintings dating back to the 15th century.

In addition to the portrait of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, the “Ah Güzel İstanbul” exhibition offers visitors the opportunity to see the painting of Suleiman the Magnificent by Italian painter Cristofano Dell’Altissimo and the medallion of Fatih Sultan Mehmet by Costanzo da Ferrara.

OVER 300 WORKS IN THE 'AH GÜZEL İSTANBUL' EXHIBITION

In the “Ah Güzel İstanbul” exhibition currently underway at the Istanbul Art Museum, over 300 works by precious artists of Turkish painting, such as Süleyman Seyyid, Hoca Ali Rıza, Prince Abdülmecid Efendi, Halil Paşa, Avni Lifij, Feyhaman Duran, İbrahim Çallı, Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu, Komet, Avni Arbaş, Eren Eyüboğlu, Fikret Mualla, Hikmet Onat, Fahrelnissa Zeid, Şevket Dağ, Zeki Kocamemi, Burhan Doğançay, Cihat Burak, Hamit Görele, Naile Akıncı, Mehmet Güleryüz, Ferruh Başağa, Neşe Erdok, Tevfik Fikret, Recaizade Mahmut Ekrem, Mıgırdiç Civanyan, Mihri Hanım, Sabri Berkel, Hale Asaf, Fikret Otyam, and Selma Gürbüz, are on display.

The “Ah Güzel İstanbul” exhibition can be visited for free at the Istanbul Art Museum every day except Mondays, between 10:00 and 19:00, until September 3, 2024.
