Cem Yılmaz fined for 'alcohol advertising': Alleged to have promoted products
It has been alleged that famous comedian Cem Yılmaz engaged in 'alcohol advertising' through a photo he shared on Instagram. The Ministry of Trade's Advertising Board has issued a 'cease and desist' order to the famous comedian Cem Yılmaz on the grounds that he engaged in covert alcohol advertising on social media.
According to a report by the Sabah newspaper, the Ministry of Trade's Advertising Board determined that the brand and distinctive elements of various alcoholic beverage products were visible in Yılmaz's posts, and that the products were advertised despite being prohibited by using demand-generating imagery and implications. The Board issued a cease and desist order to Yılmaz regarding the advertisements.
REASON: ENGAGING IN COVERT ADVERTISING
It was determined that the posts were shared in a format presented as the sharing of personal preferences and experiences without clearly stating that they were advertisements or using any explanatory expressions such as 'sponsor' or 'collaboration,' and that this situation constituted a form of covert advertising.
In its investigation, the Ministry of Trade's Advertising Board determined that Cem Yılmaz used images in his social media posts where the brand and other distinctive elements of alcoholic beverage products were visible and noticeable, thereby advertising alcoholic beverage products despite the legal prohibition by using demand-generating imagery and implications in his posts.
