Egils Silins comes to Istanbul for The Flying Dutchman opera

The Istanbul State Opera and Ballet will stage Richard Wagner’s opera The Flying Dutchman (Der fliegende Holländer) on March 22, March 25, and April 5, 2025, at the Atatürk Cultural Center Türk Telekom Opera Hall. In the performance on March 25, Latvian bass-baritone Egils Silins will take the lead role. The opera is directed by Sebastian Welker.

Plot

First staged in Dresden in 1843, the opera tells the story of a cursed sailor who can only come ashore once every seven years in search of salvation. Only the love of a woman who remains faithful to him can set him free. The orchestra is conducted by İbrahim Yazıcı, while the set design is by Efter Tunç, costume design by Serdar Başbuğ, lighting design by Yakup Çartık, and choreography by Emre Karaca. The IDOB Choir is directed by Volkan Akkoç.

Egils Silins

The Latvia-born artist graduated from the Latvian Academy of Music. He has won awards in international competitions and has performed on stages such as the Vienna State Opera, Teatro alla Scala, and the Metropolitan Opera.
