Selami Karaibrahimgil, founder of the Modern Folk Üçlüsü, has passed away

Mehmet Selami Karaibrahimgil, one of the founders of the prominent Turkish pop music group Modern Folk Üçlüsü and the uncle of famous singer Nil Karaibrahimgil, has passed away at the age of 80.

The news was announced on social media by another member of the group, Doğan Canku.

In his social media post, Canku shared the following message:

“I have learned with deep sorrow of the passing of my dear friend Selami Karaibrahimgil, with whom I founded the Modern Folk Üçlüsü and shared years and paths. I wish him God's mercy and offer my condolences to his family and loved ones. He was a very special person who provided great services to our country in the fields of art and culture. WHO IS SELAMİ KARAİBRAHİMGİL?

Born on November 15, 1944, Mehmet Selami Karaibrahimgil graduated from the Department of Italian Language and Literature at Ankara University's Faculty of Languages, History and Geography.

The Modern Folk Üçlüsü, which he founded alongside Ahmet Kurtaran and Doğan Canku, successfully represented Turkey by participating in over 400 concerts, festivals, and television programs across 35 different countries.

Karaibrahimgil, who served within the Ministry of Culture and Tourism in major centers such as London and New York, succeeded in balancing his artistic and state duties.

The master artist, who was married and a father of one, was the uncle of the famous singer Nil Karaibrahimgil.
