Protest against Ozan Güven on stage: Performances cancelled

In recent days, audience members at a venue in Kadıköy reacted to actor Ozan Güven with chants of “Perpetrators out.” Following this protest, Güven and his colleague Mehmet Aslantuğ, who was with him, were forced to leave the event. In a statement to the public after the incident, Ozan Güven stated that the reactions directed at him were quite heavy for him. Güven said, “I have not underestimated the feelings of people who think about, criticize, get angry at, or react to me. The incident that took place that evening was very heavy for me. A person being targeted in a public space, judged without being heard, humiliated, and attempted to be removed from there is an overstepping of boundaries. I remained silent out of respect for the legal process, but I am being made a target within the same preconceived notions. Silence should not mean that a person's dignity is ignored. Criticism is one thing, lynching is another. I am a human being too. What hurt me the most was that common sense and human measure were lost within that reaction. I hope we can manage to remain human while criticizing. I leave the venue where the incident took place and those involved to justice first, and then to God,” he expressed.

In connection with the incident, Güven, who has been performing for a long time with the play titled "o.m.g", announced that the planned performances in Antalya, Ankara, and İzmir have been cancelled due to “force majeure.” The artist announced that they will perform the final show of the season on Friday evening, June 19, at Babasahne. Thanking all the audience members who attended the shows, Güven said, “We thank everyone who laughed, thought, and shared our story with us this season. See you again next season.”

Ozan Güven, who was tried on allegations of violence against Deniz Bulutsuz in 2010 and received a prison sentence of 2 years and 3 months for this, had been acquitted of the charges of ‘insult’ and ‘deprivation of liberty.’
