Spectacular exhibition in Paris for Akbaş’s 40th anniversary in art
The Paris City Hall is celebrating painter Onay Akbaş’s 40th year in art with the exhibition “Poetry of Chaos: The Memory of a Tea Garden in Anatolia.”
On September 15, the Paris City Hall began exhibiting the works of painter Onay Akbaş, who has lived and worked in the city for many years, on the exterior facade of the Caserne Napoléon.
The exhibition, which will remain open until October 31, features 40 of Akbaş’s works for art enthusiasts.
A long preparation phase took place for the exhibition where Onay Akbaş’s works are displayed. In this exhibition, Akbaş creates “memory surfaces” by transforming the bill slips he collected in the forgotten tea gardens of Anatolia into canvases years later.
Tea gardens are also the birthplace of Akbaş’s works... Akbaş transformed these sketches into finished pieces in his Paris studio through a process he calls the “Foundry.”

A GREAT HONOR FROM THE PARIS CITY HALL
The brochure prepared by the Paris City Hall for the exhibition begins with the words “The City of Paris Presents.” In the brochure, Akbaş’s works are introduced with the following words: “Poetry of Chaos… The diary of a tea garden in Anatolia… In honor of Onay Akbaş’s 40th year in art, we want to introduce Parisians and visitors to his unique works through an exhibition inspired by shadow theater, migration, and identity stories. Akbaş follows a memory route where dreams are dreamt while drinking tea. His works serve as mental maps and emotional archives.”
The exhibition is curated by young artist Deniz Demirer. Akbaş’s works, which have been displayed in many countries from Latin America to China, and from North America to South Africa, have now met with art lovers in the heart of Paris, where he has lived for a long time.
