Visitors at a US museum will be able to chat with AI-generated 'avatar veterans'

At an exhibition opening today at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, USA, visitors will have the opportunity to chat with AI-generated avatars of veterans.

In the exhibition titled Voices From the Front, visitors will be able to talk to avatars of World War II veterans in a virtual environment.

Participants will be able to select the avatar of the veteran they wish to speak with via a console and ask them questions.

The project, which took 4 years to prepare, utilized dozens of interviews and hundreds of questions conducted with veterans to train the artificial intelligence.

Peter Crean, Vice President of Education at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans, explained that the artificial intelligence analyzes the questions asked, finds the most appropriate response from the veterans' previous answers, and presents that answer to the visitors.

Pointing out that the experiences of deceased veterans are being lost, Crean noted that the opportunity for the American public to communicate one-on-one with veterans is also decreasing every day.

Some of the veterans whose avatars are featured in the project are expected to attend the opening of the exhibition.
