Presented as a 112 million 'heist'… Behind the arrest, a 112 thousand TL 'prescribing medication without examination' file emerged

Prof. Dr. Ayten Erdoğan, an experienced physician in the Child Psychiatry department of the private Balıklı Rum Hospital, was detained on November 21, 2025, along with six others, including her secretary, a pharmacist, and pharmaceutical representatives, on allegations of fake prescriptions and irregularities.

According to the report by Timur Soykan from Birgün, the diabetic professor, who was interrogated for 10 hours and held in custody for three days, was arrested and sent to prison last night.

The charges against Erdoğan include serious offenses such as "qualified fraud" and "unlawful disclosure of personal data." The prosecutor's office claimed in its statement that the SGK had been defrauded of 112 million TL. However, this figure does not exist in the file.

NOT IN THE PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE, NOT IN THE INSPECTOR'S REPORT

It has been understood that there is no accusation of a 112 million TL crime in Prof. Dr. Erdoğan's interrogation records, the SGK inspector's report, the police summary, or the arrest request.

The public loss determined in the report prepared by inspectors in 2020 was 112 thousand 293 TL. Moreover, Erdoğan had already paid this amount, totaling 200 thousand TL with interest.

For an unknown reason, "three zeros" were added to the prosecutor's statement, making the figure 12 million TL, and it subsequently appeared in headlines as 112 million TL.

A HIDDEN CAMERA WAS PLACED IN HER OFFICE 5 YEARS AGO

It has emerged that the investigation was launched 5 years ago, but the operation was carried out recently.

During the 2019–2020 period, a hidden camera was placed in Prof. Erdoğan's office, and her phones were wiretapped for months.

The tapes show the professor trying to obtain medications for her patients that were not available on the market, communicating with the pharmacy to ensure they did not run out of medicine, and often seeking solutions for children from families with limited financial means.

"IF THEY DON'T TAKE THEIR MEDICATION FOR ONE DAY, THEY CAN HARM THEMSELVES AND OTHERS"

In her interrogation, Erdoğan explained that all the tape recordings were steps she took to ensure child patients were not victimized:

"If children with behavioral disorders do not take their medication for even one day, they can harm themselves and those around them. I ensured they could get their medication by paying for it, even if it wasn't the prescription date. My goal was to ensure the children were not victimized."

The allegation that she directed patients to the same pharmacy because it was the only one nearby also entered the records for this reason.

EVEN HER OWN MEDICATIONS AND 'PISTACHIO MONEY' BECAME CHARGES

During the interrogation, camera footage of medication bags left in her office by a pharmacy clerk was also considered evidence. Erdoğan showed with documents that these medications were for her own chronic illnesses and that she had paid for them.

Even the money given for pistachios that the pharmacy employee sold to the staff was included in the investigation file.

The 1–2 thousand TL she gave her secretary for breakfast supplies was also made a subject of accusation; the MASAK report confirmed that the money was sent "for breakfast shopping."

AZERBAIJANI FAMILY CRIED UPON HEARING THE ACCUSATION

It was alleged that medication was sent abroad based on the term "Azeris" mentioned in the tapes.

Erdoğan explained that an Azerbaijani family, whose bipolar treatment she had been following for years, only bought medication for their own child, paid for it, and took it to their country:

"There was no money exchange between us. I went to their weddings, and they came when my grandchildren were born. The same family wanted to come and testify again."

"I WROTE PRESCRIPTIONS FOR PATIENTS FROM WHOM I DID NOT COLLECT EXAMINATION FEES; THAT IS MY OFFENSE"

The main reason for Prof. Erdoğan's accusation is as follows:

Writing only the reported medications for patients who could not afford to pay the examination fee.

The private hospital management wanted a high examination fee to be collected for every prescription. Erdoğan stated that she found this unscrupulous:

"They consider it a crime for me to write reported prescriptions without paying high fees to the hospital. I did not take money from any patient. I just wanted the child not to be left without medication."
