12 released in May 1st arrests
All defendants have been released in the trial of 12 people who were detained and arrested after their homes were raided for attempting to march to Taksim on May 1st.
The first hearing of the case involving 12 people, who were detained and arrested after their homes were raided for attempting to march to Taksim on May 1st, was held today at the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance.
The court decided to release all defendants.
FROM THE INDICTMENT
Two indictments had been prepared by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau. In the first indictment, a total of up to 405 years in prison was requested for 30 detainees. In the second indictment, a total of 162 years in prison was requested for 12 detainees. In the two separate indictments, a total of up to 567 years in prison was requested for 42 detainees in total.
29 DETAINEES REMAIN
12 more of the individuals who were detained and later arrested after confronting police while marching from Saraçhane to celebrate May 1st Labor Day in Taksim were released by the court today.
Thus, a total of 29 detainees remain in the case.
77 people had been arrested in operations targeting those who confronted police in districts such as Saraçhane, Beşiktaş, and Beyoğlu while attempting to celebrate May 1st in Taksim.
