16-year-old Abdulbaki was taken from life with stab wounds: Threatening messages to the grieving family
In Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district, 16-year-old Abdulbaki Demirel lost his life after being stabbed 17 times in an attack by peers who demanded cigarettes and money from him. It has emerged that the grieving family has been receiving death threats following the arrest of the two suspects involved in the murder.
A brutal murder in Istanbul's Büyükçekmece district has left a family in mourning. In the incident that took place in the Muratçeşme neighborhood on Sunday, May 10, 16-year-old Abdulbaki Demirel and his friend S.I. were subjected to a knife attack by their peers.
Allegedly, E.B. (16) and M.A.D. (17) demanded cigarettes and money from Abdulbaki Demirel and his friend S.I. The argument that ensued after Abdulbaki stated he did not smoke and had no money on him quickly escalated into a fight.
KILLED WHILE TRYING TO PROTECT HIS FRIEND
According to information provided by the family, the attackers assaulted the two children, citing a past grudge they held against S.I.
It was stated that Abdulbaki Demirel was chased by the suspects while he was trying to protect his friend and move him away from the scene. It was learned that the young boy received a total of 17 stab wounds to vital areas of his body.
The severely injured Abdulbaki Demirel and S.I. were taken to the hospital after initial intervention by medical teams at the scene. Despite all efforts by doctors, Abdulbaki Demirel lost his life. It was reported that the injured child's treatment is ongoing.
SUSPECTS CAUGHT WITH THE MURDER WEAPON
E.B. and M.A.D., who fled after the incident, were caught by police teams in a short time along with the weapon used in the crime.
The two detained suspects were referred to the courthouse following their processing at the police station. The suspects were arrested by the court and sent to prison.
The funeral of the late Abdulbaki Demirel was laid to rest at the new cemetery in Güzelce.
A CALL FOR "JUSTICE" FROM THE GRIEVING FATHER
Father Cevdet Demirel, who laid his son to rest, stated that he wants the perpetrators to receive the harshest punishment.
Arguing that current legal regulations are insufficient, Demirel stated that the attackers should not be released in a short time. Father Demirel also demanded that the parents of the children involved in the crime be prosecuted for negligence.
Stating that no apology has been received from the other side, the grieving father expressed that digital content and platforms that lead young people to violence should be regulated.
DEATH THREATS TO THE FAMILY
It has also emerged that the family has been receiving threatening messages following the murder.
Father Cevdet Demirel announced that after the suspects were arrested, death threats were sent to them via telephone.
It was stated that the messages sent to the family included the phrases, "If you do not withdraw your complaint, we will slaughter you."
The Demirel family stated that despite all the threats, they will follow the legal process to the end and will not take a step back.
"GANG FORMATION AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE"
Abdulbaki Demirel's older brother, Muhammed Demirel, also drew attention to the rising street violence in Turkey in a statement made after the incident.
Stating that his brother's chance of survival was deliberately eliminated due to the 17 stab wounds he received, Demirel argued that carrying knives and weapons at a young age is linked to gang formation and substance abuse.
The family, claiming that the perpetrators commit crimes by relying on sentence reductions, stated that state institutions must take stricter measures against young criminals who act with the mindset of "I am young, I will serve my time and get out."
