17 people had been detained: New development in football betting investigation
The 17 suspects detained as part of the football betting investigation have been referred to the courthouse following their processing at the police station.
In the match-fixing investigation conducted by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out against 19 club officials on allegations that they placed bets on their own teams' matches in favor of opponents or on goal outcomes during their tenure, and 17 suspects were apprehended in the operation.
In the work carried out by obtaining data covering the years 2020-2026 belonging to officials in football clubs from legal betting sites operating in Turkey, individuals who had coupons within the scope of bets in favor of the opposing team, goal-related bets, and player-oriented bets during the period they served as managers in their clubs were identified.
A simultaneous operation was carried out in 10 provinces centered in Istanbul to apprehend 19 suspects, and 17 individuals were caught and taken into custody.
The processing of the 17 detained suspects at the police station has concluded. The suspects have been referred to the courthouse.
