177 workers lost their lives in work-related accidents in May

The Health and Safety Labor Watch (İSİG) detailed the deaths caused by work-related accidents in its report for May. The report stated that the highest number of deaths occurred in the construction and road sectors, at 22 percent. The transportation and agriculture/forestry (farmer) sectors followed with 11 percent each.

Deaths in the agriculture/forestry (worker) and trade/office sectors occurred at a rate of 9 percent.

When looking at the causes of work-related accidents, it was announced that 21 percent were due to traffic/shuttle accidents, 17 percent due to crushing, 15 percent due to heart attacks and brain hemorrhages, and 14 percent due to falls from height.

When examined by age group, it was observed that workers between the ages of 30-49 were the most affected group, with 84 workers losing their lives in this age range.

52 workers between the ages of 50-64, 25 workers between the ages of 18-29, 4 young workers between the ages of 15-17, and 2 child workers under the age of 14 were also among those who lost their lives.

Work-related accidents occurred in 54 cities across Turkey and in one country abroad. Istanbul was the city with the highest loss of workers, with 24 deaths. 8 deaths each were recorded in Aydın, Muğla, and Sakarya, while 6 deaths each were recorded in Ankara and Giresun.
