2 released in sexual assault case involving 'we will recruit you to MIT' promise!

Konya 9th High Criminal Court held the hearing for the case, which was attended by the detained defendants Ahmet M., school principals Asuman S.K. and Harun A., and the lawyers for the parties.

Following the defense statements, the court panel sentenced defendant Ahmet M. to 22 years in prison for the crime of "sexual abuse."

The panel, which sentenced school principals Harun A. and Asuman S.K. to 8 years and 4 months each for "aiding and abetting sexual abuse," decided to release the defendants.

The court, which acquitted Asuman S.K.'s husband M.K., B.K., and H.K., also sentenced Ahmet M.'s partner, Ali A., to 8 years and 4 months in prison.

G.A., a high school student studying in Konya, filed a complaint with her family in December 2022, alleging that she was abused through threats and the promise that "We will recruit you as a civil servant to the National Intelligence Organization (MIT)." Ahmet M., school principal Harun A., and another school principal, Asuman S.K., who were detained in connection with the incident, were arrested by the duty magistrate.

The prepared indictment stated that school principal Harun A. introduced 17-year-old high school student G.A. to Ahmet M. (35), telling her that he would have her recruited into the National Intelligence Organization (MIT) because she was successful in her studies. The indictment stated that electrician Ahmet M., who introduced himself as a member of MIT, sexually abused G.A. using the same promises and threats. The indictment also noted that Ahmet M. had entered into a religious marriage with G.A.

The indictment requested up to 37 years in prison each for Ahmet M., school principal Harun A., and another school principal, Asuman S.K., who was alleged to have a connection to the incident, on charges of "depriving a person of their liberty using force, threats, or deception," "qualified sexual abuse of a child," and "sexual assault by molestation."
