3 billion lira in unregistered earnings detected in the red meat sector: Inspections to be expanded

The Tax Inspection Board (VDK) of the Ministry of Treasury and Finance has launched a comprehensive investigation into the red meat sector. As part of the inspections, the cattle production facilities of the sector's four major producers were examined. During field studies carried out in seven provinces, livestock assets and ear tags were checked.

In the examinations conducted, it was determined that the four producers had left 3 billion lira of earnings unregistered. In this context, tax assessments with penalties were issued to the firms in question. It was announced that the inspections would continue by expanding to other provinces.

Tax inspectors, revenue specialists, and veterinarians affiliated with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry participated in the inspection process. The teams placed taxpayers deemed risky under tax audit. Officials underlined that they aim to detect unregistered activities through inspections and ensure that tax obligations are fulfilled completely.

Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek, in his statement, touched upon the importance of ensuring tax justice and protecting fair competition, and noted the following:

'We are working in coordination and cooperation with the relevant ministries. By effectively fighting against the informal economy, we will ensure the healthy development of the sector. With these inspections, we aim to detect unregistered activities and ensure that tax obligations are fulfilled completely. Thus, we are identifying those who engage in market-distorting acts for a fair competitive environment.'

Ministry teams announced that they would expand their field studies regarding the red meat sector in the coming weeks. It was stated that the inspections aim to create a fair competitive environment by reducing unregistered activities in the sector.
