3 ISIS terrorists preparing for an attack captured in Istanbul

The Istanbul Provincial Police Department's Counter-Terrorism Branch and Intelligence Branch teams launched an operation to uncover the activities of the jihadist terrorist organization ISIS in Turkey, and to identify and capture its members.

Police teams placed three cell members linked to the organization under close surveillance. Following technical and physical tracking, an operation was carried out on a cell house in Istanbul's Bağcılar district. In the raid, which was also attended by special operations teams, 3 terrorists—identified as M.A., R.K., and T.A., two of whom are women—whose ISIS connections were uncovered and who were understood to be in contact with conflict zones within the organization, were captured.

Information regarding the construction of improvised explosive devices and suicide vests was discovered in the digital materials and mobile phones seized from the cell members. The 3 ISIS individuals were taken to the Istanbul Police Department's Vatan Campus in Fatih for interrogation.

While the three suspects, who were understood to be seeking to carry out an action, are being investigated from multiple angles regarding their connections and contacts in Turkey, all 3 terrorists were subjected to cross-examination at the Counter-Terrorism Branch.

The suspects, who were preparing for an attack, were referred to the Istanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan last Friday after their statements were completed.

The 3 suspects were arrested by the judicial authorities to whom they were referred and sent to prison.
