30 suspects detained for social media posts threatening attacks on schools

Following school attacks in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş, 30 suspects, 25 of whom are children, have been detained in İzmir for making social media posts containing threats of attacks on schools.

Police teams scrutinized content shared in social media groups and on individual accounts targeting educational institutions in the city following the threats in question. Action was taken swiftly as part of an investigation launched on charges of 'threatening to create fear and panic among the public' and 'inciting the public to hatred and hostility or insulting them'.

In a simultaneous operation conducted early in the morning, a total of 30 people, including 25 individuals under the age of 18, were taken into custody. Authorities stated that the investigation into the incident is being conducted meticulously and that legal proceedings have been initiated against those who made the threatening posts.

While the messages containing threats of attacks on schools, which spread on social media, prompted the governor's office and security forces to take action, the charges brought against those who made the posts have also sparked public debate. It was reported that the operation carried out across İzmir was organized to prevent similar incidents.
