300 beneficiaries left waiting: TOKİ lottery held, but not even a foundation exists

As part of a housing project carried out by the Housing Development Administration (TOKİ) in the Yomra district, 300 people were identified as beneficiaries through a lottery held earlier this year. With their expectations raised, the beneficiaries experienced great disappointment when they sought to see the progress of the project after the draw. Upon inspecting the area, citizens found no signs that construction had even begun and are now reacting with frustration, as not even the foundations for the homes have been laid.

The beneficiaries include Cyprus veterans, relatives of martyrs, individuals with disabilities, and families with many children. Despite being told they would become homeowners after their names were drawn, these citizens have not been provided with any clear information regarding when the project will be implemented.

According to a report by Sözcü, CHP Trabzon Deputy Sibel Suiçmez stated regarding the issue, "There is neither a house in sight nor is the location where these houses will be built clear. When our Yomra Mayor Mustafa Bıyık asked TOKİ, 'Where is the location of these houses?', he did not receive a clear answer. TOKİ merely says, 'The location is not yet determined.' People are being sold hope, but they are not being given answers."

Citizens are criticizing the lack of details shared regarding the project despite being declared beneficiaries. Expressing her concern about the process, Suiçmez remarked, "Even TOKİ does not know where these houses will be built."
