37 people, including police and lawyers, detained in gang operation
In an operation targeting an organized crime group in Istanbul, 37 suspects, including public officials such as customs enforcement officers, court clerks, probation officers, lawyers, and police officers, were apprehended and taken into custody.
Acting within the scope of an investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, teams from the Istanbul Police Department's Organized Crime Branch launched a new operation against gangs in a joint effort with the Intelligence Branch.
During examinations of digital materials belonging to 2 suspects previously apprehended in an operation targeting an organized armed criminal group that operates in Istanbul, across the country, and internationally—and led by a suspect currently abroad—incriminating correspondence was discovered. In this context, an operation was carried out on February 19. Expanding on the operation conducted on that date, the police carried out another large-scale operation this morning in light of new evidence and documents.
In line with HTS, MASAK, log records, and other evidence obtained during the ongoing investigation, 37 suspects, including public officials such as customs enforcement officers, court clerks, probation officers, lawyers, and police officers, were apprehended and taken into custody in a simultaneous operation organized to capture suspects linked to the criminal organization.
The detained suspects were taken to the Istanbul Organized Crime Branch for questioning. The investigation procedures carried out within the scope of the operation are ongoing.
