4 seismologists reach consensus on 'Hakkari Earthquake' for the first time: They announced the magnitude of the earthquake
Following the earthquakes that occurred in Kahramanmaraş on February 6, 2023, citizens across Turkey have been following statements from experts with great curiosity. After a series of earthquakes around magnitude 4.0 in Hakkari recently, 4 seismologists have reached a consensus that an earthquake of magnitude 7 is expected.
While the anxious wait of citizens continues following the Kahramanmaraş-centered earthquakes, the statements of experts remain a key topic of discussion.
Following earthquakes in Hakkari, the largest of which was 4.5, 4 seismologists have issued a warning for Hakkari with a joint decision for the first time.
DEMAND FOR URBAN TRANSFORMATION IN HAKKARİ
Prof. Dr. Ahmet Övgün Ercan stated in a post on his X account that they expect a magnitude 7 earthquake in Hakkari, saying the following:
"Starting with myself, 4 seismologists have reached a consensus for the first time that an earthquake of around M7 is expected in Hakkari: Geophysicist Prof. Dr. Övgün Ercan and Geoscientists: Prof. Dr. Okan Tüysüz, Prof. Dr. Naci Görür, Prof. Dr. Doğan Perinçek. Hakkari should be prioritized for urban transformation."
Ben başta olmak üzere, 4 deprem bilimci ilk kez Hakkari'de M7 dolayında bir deprem beklendiği konusunda uzlaştılar: Yerfizikçi Prof. Dr. Övgün Ercan ile Yerbilimciler: Prof Dr Okan Tüysüz, Prof Dr Naci Görür, Prof Dr. Doğan Perincek. Hakkari kentsel dönüşüm önceliği almalı.
