6 people killed in neighborhood headman election clashes

Sad incidents occurred during the race for neighborhood headman (muhtar) in the lead-up to and during the March 31 Local Administration General Elections. In clashes related to the headman elections across the country, 2 people lost their lives in Şanlıurfa, and 1 person each died in Diyarbakır, Mardin, Siirt, and Istanbul.

In the Harran district of Şanlıurfa, 2 people were killed and 1 person was injured on March 17 in an armed clash between two groups regarding the headman election process. Of the 4 people detained in connection with the fight, 2, including the headman M.K., were arrested, while the others were released under judicial control conditions.

In the Eyyübiye, Bozova, Harran, and Halfeti districts of Şanlıurfa, 16 people were injured in clashes that broke out yesterday due to the headman elections.

DİYARBAKIR

In the rural Ağaçlıdere neighborhood of the central Sur district of Diyarbakır, 1 person was killed and 14 people were injured on March 31 in an armed clash between two groups due to the headman election.

Within the scope of the investigation initiated by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, 12 of the 19 suspects for whom arrest warrants were issued have been detained by security forces, and 6 people are still receiving treatment in the hospital. Efforts are underway to apprehend 1 fugitive suspect.

SİİRT

In the village of Konacık in Siirt, 1 person lost their life and 4 people were injured yesterday in a fight between two groups due to the headman election. 1 suspect has been detained in connection with the fight.

In the town of Veyselkarani in the Baykan district of Siirt, 8 people, including 1 police officer, were injured yesterday in a fight between two groups due to the headman election. 5 people have been detained in connection with the fight.

In Burdur, 3 people were injured in a fight that broke out due to the headman election.

In the village of Balca in Bayburt, 1 person was injured yesterday after an argument between two groups regarding the headman election turned into a fight.

1 LOSS OF LIFE IN ISTANBUL

In Arnavutköy, a citizen who was injured while passing by during an armed fight between parties learned to be relatives over the headman election, and who was subsequently taken to the hospital, has passed away.

Police teams have detained 4 suspects in connection with the incident. The treatment of 1 injured person is ongoing.

In the rural Görentepe neighborhood of the Nusaybin district of Mardin, 1 person was killed and 3 people were injured in a fight that broke out due to the headman election results.

In the fight that broke out due to the headman election in the Kızıltepe district of Mardin, 11 people were injured.
