6 provinces won by the AKP since its founding have shifted to the CHP

Some provinces in Turkey that had chosen the AKP in every election since the 2004 local elections changed their minds in these local elections.

Here are those provinces lost by the AKP:

ADIYAMAN

The most unexpected result of the local elections came in Adıyaman.

Although the province, which experienced the greatest earthquake disaster in history, did not show its reaction to the government in the general elections, it gave a clear message in the municipal elections.

BURSA

One of the cities seen as an impregnable stronghold of the AKP was Bursa. The province, where no party other than the AKP had won the center since the 2004 local elections, is at the forefront of the provinces that sent a message to the government in the local elections.

AFYONKARAHİSAR

One of the provinces that AKP officials were certain they would win in their election assessments was Afyonkarahisar.

However, this city also made a different choice in the March 31, 2024 elections, saying "yes" to the main opposition party after a 20-year interval.

DENİZLİ

One of the provinces that the AKP had governed since its founding was Denizli.

Denizli used its preference in favor of the main opposition party in the last election. Thus, for the first time since the AKP was founded, a different party will govern Denizli.

KIRIKKALE

One of the provinces that the CHP won, which had only been won by the AKP for 20 years since the 2004 local elections, was Kırıkkale.

KİLİS

One of the surprise provinces where the CHP won the municipality was Kilis. The AKP had been winning continuously in Kilis since the 2004 elections.
