6 suspects arrested in connection with building collapse in Konya
Six suspects detained on allegations of responsibility for the collapse of a 4-story building in Konya have been arrested.
Following the instructions of the Konya Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the number of detainees rose to 6 after 2 more suspects, alleged to have been responsible for the incident, were apprehended.
The suspects, whose procedures were completed at the Murder Bureau of the Provincial Police Department's Public Security Branch, were taken to Konya Numune Hospital for health checks by bus under the escort of riot police.
The suspects, fish shop operator Kazım F., former coffeehouse owner Kemal Ö., shop owners Hakkı İ. and Mehmet P., interior designer Tuncer D., and Volkan D., who performed renovation work on the fish shop, were referred to the courthouse.
Following their interrogation by the prosecutor's office, the suspects were referred to the duty magistrate's court with a request for arrest.
The duty magistrate's court ordered the arrest of the 6 suspects after taking their statements.
It was learned that the work of the expert committee is ongoing.
It was alleged that the suspects Kazım F. and Kemal Ö. stated that they had broken the shop's wall to open doors in 2 different places.
The Taşoluk Apartment building on Beyşehir Street in the Selçuk neighborhood of Konya's central Selçuklu district collapsed on January 24; 3 people were rescued from the rubble, and the lifeless bodies of 2 people were recovered.
Regarding the incident, for which an investigation was launched by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, one deputy chief public prosecutor and 2 public prosecutors were assigned, and 4 people were initially detained.
