7.5 billion TL in tax debt written off in 10 years

It has been learned that in the 10-year period covering 2013 to 2023, 2 billion 587 million 72 thousand 443 TL in tax debt and 4 billion 919 million 306 thousand 144 TL in penalty debt were written off by the Tax Reconciliation Commission and the Tax Office Coordination Reconciliation Commission.

According to a report by Mustafa Bildircin from Birgün, CHP MP Cevdet Akay revealed the breakdown of tax debts written off between 2013 and 2023. Reminding Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek of his words, "We will spread the tax base," Akay emphasized that the government only writes off debts belonging to the wealthy.

7.5 BILLION TL IN TAX DEBT WRITTEN OFF

According to the study conducted by CHP's Akay on the data of the Revenue Administration, a total of 7 billion 506 million 378 thousand 587 TL in tax debt was written off in the 2013-2023 period, consisting of 2 billion 587 million 72 thousand 443 TL in tax debts and 4 billion 919 million 306 thousand 144 TL in tax penalty debts.

Touching upon the amount of tax for which collection was waived, Akay said: "The tax for which collection was waived due to exemptions, exceptions, and deductions, known as tax expenditures, is not included in this calculation. In this way, the collection of 2.2 trillion TL in taxes will also be waived in 2024. Of this, 657 billion TL is the corporate tax amount involving 44 firms operating under the PPP and BOT models. Furthermore, tax amnesties were provided through 14 amnesty laws enacted between 2002 and 2023. When we include these figures in the calculation, we are faced with a massive tax amnesty."

Reacting to the fact that the companies whose debts were written off were not disclosed, the CHP's Akay continued his words as follows: "At the TBMM Planning and Budget Committee, we asked the Deputy Minister of Treasury and Finance and the officials from the Ministry of Treasury and Finance to share the details of the written-off tax debts with us, but unfortunately, this request was not met. We know who these companies are, and we want our nation to know as well, but the government is doing everything it can to hide this."
