75-year-old Emine asks for help in tears: Facing the threat of homelessness!

In Adana, visually impaired Emine, who lives with her daughter and 10-year-old grandchild, is set to be evicted by her landlord after losing a court case. Stating that she will be put out on the street in 5 months, the elderly woman tearfully requested a single-room home where she could afford the rent.

75-year-old mother of 3, Emine Karakaya, fell from the 2nd floor of a house where she was working as a cleaner 10 years ago. Suffering damage to her eyes, Karakaya lost her vision 7 years ago. Following this, Karakaya began living with her grandchild Elif in the Namık Kemal neighborhood of the Seyhan district. After a while, Karakaya's daughter, Durdane Zevkirlioğlu, also moved in with her mother and niece to take care of them.

LANDLORD FILED A LAWSUIT

The landlord of Emine Karakaya, who receives a 4,600 TL 65-plus pension from the state, R.K., raised the rent to 2,500 liras last year. In response, Karakaya's daughter, Durdane Zevkirlioğlu, said, "We are not in a position to pay this. We only live on my mother's pension. We cannot pay more than 2,000 liras." Zevkirlioğlu deposited 2,000 liras into the landlord's bank account every month. The landlord, R.K., then filed an eviction lawsuit against Emine Karakaya. An expert appointed by the court valued the monthly rent of the house at 5,000 liras, ordered the payment of 56,000 liras to the landlord for the backdated rent shortfall, and upheld the eviction.

WILL BE EVICTED IN 5 MONTHS

The court gave Karakaya a 5-month grace period. The elderly woman, who will be evicted in 5 months, asked for help in tears.

Speaking to the İhlas News Agency, Emine Karakaya said, "I spend every day crying. I want a single-room house to put a roof over my head, I don't want anything else. I don't know where we will go. They tell us to leave the house. They keep increasing the rent. The landlord is evicting us. I only receive a 65-plus pension, I have no other income. They are trying to evict us and telling us to go wherever we want."

Durdane Zevkirlioğlu, who cares for her mother, stated, "My mother only receives a 4,600 lira 65-plus pension. I cannot work, we have no other income. An eviction lawsuit was filed and won. They also issued a debt ruling because we deposited 56,000 liras less in rent. Let alone paying the 56,000 liras, we don't even have the strength to rent another house. If we cannot find another home in 5 months, we will be left on the street," she said.
