9 police officers detained for leaking information to the 'Casperlar' gang: WhatsApp messages revealed!

As part of an investigation conducted by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, an operation was carried out against 17 people, including nine police officers, who were alleged to have provided information to a new-generation armed criminal gang known publicly as the "Casperlar." Following the examination of digital materials seized during simultaneous raids conducted on January 9, 2026, it was determined that the suspects were in contact with the illegal organization.

During the investigation, it was determined that there was a relationship of interest between gang members and public officials, and that some public employees abused their authority to leak critical information such as "crime, wanted, vehicle, and arrest records" to organization leaders and members. In line with the findings, simultaneous searches were conducted at addresses identified in Istanbul, Muğla, Bursa, Giresun, Mersin, and Şırnak, and numerous digital materials were seized.

17 DETAINED, INCLUDING 9 POLICE OFFICERS

It was stated that among those detained were nine active police officers, as well as a court clerk, a customs enforcement officer, and a former police officer. It was announced that the other suspects held various positions linked to the organization.

STATEMENT FROM THE CHIEF PUBLIC PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE

In a statement made by the Bakırköy Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, the following was noted: "As a result of the examination of digital materials obtained during the simultaneous operation conducted on 09.01.2026 as part of the investigation carried out by our Chief Public Prosecutor's Office Organized Crime Investigation Bureau into the new-generation armed criminal organization known publicly as the Casperlar; it was understood that organization members entered into contact and interest-based relationships with public officials; in this context, it was determined that in some investigations conducted by judicial authorities, organization administrators and members obtained information such as crime/wanted/vehicle/arrest records from public officials acting contrary to their job descriptions and authorities; detention, search, and seizure orders were issued on 19.02.2026 for a total of seventeen suspects, including nine police officers, one court clerk, one customs enforcement officer, and one resigned police officer, who are considered to have acted within the organization's hierarchy, at their identified addresses in the provinces of Istanbul, Muğla, Bursa, Giresun, Mersin, and Şırnak. CORRESPONDENCE REVEALED

Meanwhile, the correspondence of public personnel who leaked information to the Casperlar criminal organization has been revealed. It was observed that gang members asked public personnel for many pieces of confidential information, including 'arrest records'.
