A Diyanet classic: Atatürk is missing from the sermon again

Continuing its tradition of not mentioning Mustafa Kemal Atatürk in sermons coinciding with national holidays, the Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) did not change its stance during the week of April 23, 2025. Atatürk's name was not included in either the Friday sermon or the official calendar.

A Diyanet classic: Atatürk is missing from the sermon again

The Presidency of Religious Affairs (Diyanet) did not include the founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in the Friday sermons coinciding with national holidays in 2025 either.

It was noted that not a single line was dedicated to Atatürk's name in the sermon read in mosques on Friday, April 25, 2025, which followed immediately after the April 23 National Sovereignty and Children's Day.

SERMON ON HALAL EARNINGS, ATATÜRK STILL MISSING

The subject of the April 25 sermon was determined as "Halal Earnings." In the sermon, which contained messages regarding social solidarity, sweat of the brow, and the importance of halal sustenance, no emphasis was placed on the historical significance of April 23 or the role Atatürk played as the founder of the Republic and the Parliament.

CONTINUING SILENCE ON NATIONAL HOLIDAYS

It is observed that Diyanet has maintained a similar stance not only this year but also in recent years. Atatürk's name is not mentioned in Friday sermons that coincide with April 23, May 19 Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, August 30 Victory Day, October 29 Republic Day, and November 10.
