A historic reminder from Mustafa Böğürcü: 'Didn't they say they knew even their shoe sizes?'

A terrorist attack was carried out on the campus of Turkish Aerospace Industries (TUSAŞ) located in the Kahramankazan district of Ankara. The attack took place right after MHP leader Devlet Bahçeli's 'Öcalan' remarks and dominated Turkey's agenda. 4 people lost their lives and 14 people were injured in the incident.

The terrorist attack has raised numerous questions. Was there intelligence that the attack would take place? If so, why were no precautions taken? Is there a security vulnerability? According to Security Expert Mustafa Böğürcü, there is definitely a security vulnerability. More importantly, Böğürcü underscores that Turkey is pregnant with much worse days ahead.

Responding to 12Punto's questions, Böğürcü commented, "Terrorists with ammunition in their backpacks came to the facilities of Turkey's most important defense and security company in Ankara's Kahramankazan district and achieved success in their own terms. They carried out a sensational act. I think there is a security vulnerability here, and there are also vulnerabilities in terms of preventive intelligence. If we had preventive intelligence activities, this incident would have been prevented before it happened to us. It seems that Turkey has failed in preventive and deterrent security measures."

Böğürcü stated the following:

"IT LOOKS LIKE THEY CONDUCTED RECONNAISSANCE HERE BEFORE"

"According to my analysis, the attack was planned and took place at the end of the 08:00-15:00 shift. When I watched the footage on social media, I saw it in the upper part of the CCTV camera footage shared from the TUSAŞ gate. This terrorist organization likely conducted reconnaissance here beforehand. Because this is a facility with an area of approximately 4 million square meters. We have information that it is the fourth largest facility in the world. It has nearly 8 gates. According to the exit from this gate, they came to the scene with long-barreled weapons, backpacks, and ammunition, and organized it by first throwing a bomb at the gate.

They entered inside all of a sudden with the shock and panic experienced by the officers at the gate. They fired indiscriminately at the gate. At that moment, the physical descriptions of two of the terrorists are visible in the area where the personnel exit doors are located. One has a short-stocked long-barreled weapon, and the other has a long-stocked long-barreled weapon. They entered inside and, while entering, they martyred and injured security personnel first and then employees by firing indiscriminately. So, when you look at it, yes, this is a terrorist attack. There is an increase in religion-motivated terrorist acts. However, there is a limitation in the actions of the separatist terrorist organization. Most recently, they had an action at the gate of the Ministry of Interior in Ankara. And there was a terrorist act by a left-wing terrorist organization at the entrance of the Çağlayan Courthouse, that's all.

Now, Minister of Interior Yerlikaya could not make a statement. He said, “We are in the identification phase.” We need to take into account that there are religion-motivated terrorist organizations spread across 23-25 provinces and that these terrorist organizations have sleeper cells, based on the posts Yerlikaya made on his social media account in the past. However, when I examine the physical structure and appearance of the individuals, there is a possibility that it could be the separatist terrorist organization, but this will be revealed after the police and gendarmerie complete their identification, fingerprint work, and determination of whether they are among the wanted persons. However, what should be noted here is that the former Minister of Interior, Süleyman Soylu, had said that the separatist terrorist organization had no influence left within Turkey, that only about 70 terrorists remained abroad, and that they even knew their shoe sizes. Since he said this, when we consider the continuity of the state, this act should not have been carried out by the separatist terrorist organization. Let's see in which direction the statement will come now? Because the state declared to us about 1 and a half years ago through the Minister of Interior that the separatist terrorist organization no longer has the capacity to operate and carry out actions inside.

The irresponsible language of politics, Devlet Bahçeli's statements, and in the meantime, even the high-level managers of the security bureaucracy serving inside and outside learned about it from television, I guess, and could not perform risk analysis. They could not predict the danger that could arise. As a result, this attack unfortunately happened. Today is bad for Turkey. I think tomorrow will be worse. The next day will be even, even, even worse. Because there is no competent, experienced security bureaucracy and security personnel in Turkey. The society sees the results of this with sadness and by experiencing them."
