A question in the LGS exam has been cancelled by the Administrative Court

Plaintiff Emre Bayar filed a lawsuit in the Administrative Court, arguing that the correct answer to a question in the science section of the exam held on June 2, 2024, should have been a different option. In his petition, the plaintiff requested that the answer key be corrected and the question be cancelled.

The expert report submitted to the court noted that the question in question could lead students to provide different answers.

The Ankara 3rd Administrative Court, upon its review, determined that the opinions and findings included in the expert report were appropriate and could be taken as the basis for a ruling, and decided to cancel the question in question.

The court's decision included the following assessments:

"It is understood that for candidates to find the correct answer to the question, they would need to possess certain high-level competencies; that due to the possibility of different interpretations, it is not suitable for the 8th-grade level; and furthermore, that 8th-grade students cannot be expected to interpret statements regarding the consideration of the weights of ropes and pulleys and the mass of the rope, as these types of expressions are statements that would affect the correct answer to the question."

The decision stated that it was not possible to understand the question clearly and accurately, that it was not prepared well enough to avoid misinterpretation, and that it was not clear enough for every student reading it to derive the same meaning.
