A striking detail in Özgür Özel's new party plan: It will not be 'left-wing'
While debates over absolute nullity continue within the CHP, it has been claimed that Özgür Özel and his team are also evaluating the option of an alternative party. According to political insiders, the potential new structure is aimed at being shaped by the 'Turkey Alliance' concept, which would appeal to broad segments of society rather than being a 'left-wing' party.
Following the absolute nullity crisis within the CHP, debates over a party convention continue.
While the elected Chairman of the CHP, Özgür Özel, and his staff are exhausting all legal avenues to continue their struggle within the party, the establishment of an alternative party remains among the options on the table.
According to a report in Nefes, names close to CHP leader Özel stated that the planned party is aimed at being shaped by the "Turkey Alliance" concept, which would appeal to broader segments of society, rather than following a "left-wing" line.
Pointing out that the strategy for the presidential elections is the deciding factor, the staff expressed that a change in government would only be possible by reaching a 50+1 percent vote share. For this reason, it was assessed that an inclusive political platform that speaks to different social segments must be created.
He explained the roadmap to be followed for establishing a party with these words:
"Our claim is that the candidate we present will be Turkey's new president. For this, they need to receive 50+1 percent of the vote. To appeal to all of Turkey, we must establish the Turkey Alliance without compromising our red lines."
In the same assessment, it was conveyed that the "Turkey Alliance" approach is fundamentally based on calculations regarding the presidential election, and that a broad-based coalition is seen as necessary for electoral success.
