A warm and rainy spring awaits Turkey!

Şahin Şahbaz, Branch Manager of Analysis and Forecasts at the General Directorate of Meteorology, announced that temperatures across Turkey will remain above seasonal norms throughout the spring months and that the season will be rainy. Şahbaz stated that they expect temperatures in March, April, and May to be 1 to 2 degrees, and in some places 3 degrees, above seasonal norms, particularly in March and April. He added that while cold snaps may occur from time to time, the spring will generally be warm.

Stating that temperatures in the Eastern Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions will be 1 to 2 degrees above seasonal norms in May, Şahbaz also provided information regarding precipitation. He noted that while precipitation across Turkey will generally follow seasonal norms, it will increase slightly in the coastal areas of the Black Sea Region.

Şahbaz emphasized that temperatures remaining above seasonal norms increase the likelihood of short-term, heavy rainfall by increasing precipitation amounts. He stated that this situation could bring about negative effects such as floods and water inundation.

Furthermore, pointing out that spring months are generally rainy, Şahbaz noted that warm weather could cause trees to bloom early, which could increase the risk of agricultural frost.
