Access ban imposed on 14 social media accounts

Access ban imposed on 14 social media accounts

The Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into content spread via social media following the attack on security forces in Istanbul.

As a result of the efforts, it was announced that an access ban has been imposed on 14 social media accounts identified as creating misinformation.

EMPHASIS ON NATIONAL SECURITY AND PUBLIC ORDER

It was stated that the decision was taken to prevent posts targeting national security and to protect public order.

Furthermore, it was noted that efforts to prevent disinformation spreading on digital platforms are ongoing.

COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTORATE AND CYBER CRIMES INVOLVED

It was reported that the access ban decision was taken as a result of investigations conducted under the coordination of the Presidency's Directorate of Communications.

It was conveyed that technical support was provided by the General Directorate of Security's Cyber Crimes Combat Department, and that the digital footprints and posts of the accounts were examined in detail.

TERROR LINK IDENTIFIED

During the examinations, it was determined that some of the accounts blocked from access had direct or indirect links to terrorist organizations.

It was stated that these accounts shared content aimed at manipulating the attack in Istanbul to disrupt social peace and undermine national security.
