Access to his account had been blocked: Mansur Yavaş changed his profile picture to Ekrem İmamoğlu

The X account of CHP presidential candidate and Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İBB) Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, who is currently imprisoned at Silivri Prison, has been blocked.

The access block was imposed after midnight on May 8. The following statement appeared on İmamoğlu's X page: "In accordance with a legal request, access to @ekrem_imamoglu has been blocked within the borders of TR."

İmamoğlu, who has been in prison since March 23, had been using his social media account to make statements and evaluations regarding current events.

While the access block on İmamoğlu's X account sparked reactions, Ankara Metropolitan Municipality (ABB) Mayor Mansur Yavaş changed the profile picture of his "Mansur Yavaş 2025" account, which he used for the election, to Ekrem İmamoğlu.

In a statement made from this account, Yavaş noted the following:

"The access block imposed on Ekrem İmamoğlu's official social media account is not just censorship against one person, but against the voices of millions. We condemn this lawlessness in the strongest possible terms.

However, it must be known that wherever justice is sought to be silenced, we will speak even louder.

This account of mine will continue to be the voice of Ekrem İmamoğlu and will be used on his behalf until the access block is lifted."
