The court has had the final say in the accusations that reached the halls of justice due to television and digital platform broadcasts. In the case heard at the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, a verdict of acquittal was issued for Acun Ilıcalı.
WHAT HAD HAPPENED?
A wide-ranging investigation had been conducted into Acun Ilıcalı, the TV8 television channel he owns, and the officials of the digital broadcasting platform 'Exxen' over allegations of "encouraging people by advertising illegal betting."
In the indictment prepared following the investigation completed by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, it was requested that 8 people, including Acun Ilıcalı, be sentenced to prison terms ranging from 1 year to 5 years and 3 months.
Following the acceptance of the indictment by the Istanbul 25th Criminal Court of First Instance, the trial of the 8 defendants, including Acun Ilıcalı, was expected to begin on July 2. In the course of the case, the court ruled for the acquittal of Ilıcalı.
