Acun Ilıcalı issues statement on betting scandal
Former Fenerbahçe vice president Acun Ilıcalı made a post following the emergence of the betting scandal. Ilıcalı stated that "the investigation into the matter is ongoing and will deepen further."
Turkish Football Federation (TFF) President İbrahim Hacıosmanoğlu announced that 371 out of 571 referees serving in professional leagues have betting accounts, and 152 of them are actively placing bets.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office announced that it has accepted Hacıosmanoğlu's statements as a formal notification and that the investigation into the matter is ongoing and will deepen further.
Ilıcalı, for his part, shared a post regarding the issue, stating that foreign referees are essential.
Acun Ilıcalı said, "I have said it many times during my time as an executive, and I am saying it once again today. Foreign referees are essential for Turkish football."
